Proper washing and care can triple the life of yarn products. Different materials need different methods — never treat them all the same.

Washing wool

  • Water: max 30°C — never hot (shrinks and distorts)
  • Method: hand wash preferred, squeeze gently, never wring or rub hard
  • Detergent: wool-specific or neutral detergent
  • Drying: dry flat; hanging stretches the garment
  • Never bleach, never tumble-dry hot, never sun-dry harshly

Washing acrylic

  • Water: max 40°C
  • Machine washable in a laundry bag on gentle cycle
  • Regular neutral detergent is fine
  • Can hang to dry; avoid harsh sun; use softener to reduce static and pilling

Blends

Choose the method by fiber ratio: high wool (50%+) follow wool care; acrylic-dominant follow acrylic care. When unsure, choose the gentler option (hand wash, low temperature).

Daily care

  • Pilling: remove gently with a fabric shaver — never pull
  • Moths: mothballs or cedar blocks in storage
  • Reshaping: steam iron on low, 2–3 cm from fabric
  • Wrinkles: hang in the bathroom while showering to steam out naturally
  • Frequency: woolens need infrequent washing — air out after 2–3 wears
