Proper storage extends textile life and prevents mildew, moths and fading. Different materials need different storage conditions.

General rules

  • Make sure items are fully dry before storage — moisture is the main cause of mildew
  • Store in a well-ventilated, dry, dark place
  • Avoid sealed plastic bags; use breathable cotton bags or paper boxes
  • Keep away from heat sources and fire

Cotton fabrics

Focus on moisture and mildew prevention: ventilated storage, desiccants, regular airing (avoid harsh sun). Cotton absorbs moisture strongly — pay extra attention during rainy seasons.

Woolens (wool, cashmere)

Focus on moth prevention: add mothballs or cedar blocks, wrap in tissue paper and store folded flat in breathable bags (never hanging — it distorts shape). Wash before storage; residual sweat attracts moths.

Acrylic & synthetics

Focus on shape and static: avoid heavy pressure, use fabric softener to reduce static. Synthetics resist mildew and moths and are easy to store, but avoid high temperatures.

Stacking

Stack for ventilation and fire safety: heavy items at the bottom. Air out promptly if any dampness is found.
